Douglass “Kirk” Farrar

Kirk Farrar is a third-generation legal professional. Earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from Kennesaw State College in 1991, he worked as a Production Supervisor for Kraft General Foods (All-American Gourmet) from 1992 to 1995. But law had always been the family business. So, Kirk headed to Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, graduating in 1997 and becoming the third generation to practice with the firm.

“Having family as attorneys initially swayed me not to go into law,” Kirk says. “I wanted to try other things. I worked for Kraft for four years until the facility where I was employed merged with Heinz and the Atlanta office closed. I did not prefer to transfer to Pennsylvania, so I decided at 26 that I would go to law after all. My experience with Kraft has greatly influenced my approach to the cases and clients I have. We enjoy looking out for the little guy.”

Farrar, Hennesy and Tanner has roots back to 1949, when Kirk’s grandfather, Arthur Curtis Farrar, Sr., launched the firm after stints as a schoolteacher and U.S. Army Major. Kirk’s dad, known as Curtis Farrar, followed, joining the family firm in 1969 and serving in multiple prestigious appointments Governors’ Study Committees on workers’ compensation as well as the Boards of Directors of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia Ports Authority.

Clearly cut from the same cloth, Kirk serves on the Executive Committee of Workers’ Compensation Claimants’ Lawyers and has been an elected board member for the Ware County District of the State Bar of Georgia since 2008. He is also actively involved with the First National Bank of Coffee having served as a Board member, Loan Committee member, Technology Committee member, and Risk Management Committee member.

But practicing personal injury law is where his heart is.

“Any type of injury claim tends to take a toll financially, physically and emotionally on the client and their family. I try and put myself in each of my clients’ shoes to understand the stories from their perspectives,” he says. “It is very rewarding to help people navigate the difficult path of an injury claim.”

“We are diligent in treating people with respect,” he recently told Coffee County Magazine, noting that the rewards of expertly representing clients go far beyond monetary gain. “You never know when what you do will help someone in their life and then will turn around and give back a hundredfold.”

Kirk loves giving back by serving on the board of directors of the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County, launched after the firm’s previous secretary of more than 40 years had two grandchildren diagnosed with cancer. Her granddaughter passed away. Her grandson survives but continues to battle the difficult effects of the disease.

“I enjoy serving on a board that makes palpable change in the circumstances of a family,” Kirk says.

Kirk lives in Douglas with his wife and three children and is a member of GracePointe Church.
